For scavengers i built all outlander parts for the forts and encounters - My system used 4 - 8 - 12m sections of geometry that can snap together in unreal to create large complex environments.
All parts used the same wood / metal and reused instanced parts within themselves to reduce mesh memory and reduce the amount of content requiring hand polishing. As i was the only one making all the outlander parts i had to ensure i could maintain the entire palette alone.
The snow up the walls and the snow covering the top faces of assets was created in shader by Clinton Crumpler, enabling me to quick assign shaders not worrying about hand painting snow.
